I have a decent credit score (697) but am having trouble getting a car loan due to several late car payments. How long do I need to make on time payments too balance that out? Or could I get the late payments taken off by the bank since the account is up to date now?

I have a decent credit score but was turned down for an auto loan because of several late payments on my current car. What can I do to remedy this? Is there an amount of time of making on time payments that will help? Can I ask that they be removed since the account has been up to date for almost 6 months?
The best advice is to start making payments on time and in full on all your debts ASAP. This will immediately start to improve your credit score. The details of your late payments stay on your credit report for seven years, but if it shows that you have made an effort to pay your debt on time, creditors will be much more understanding. Minimizing your liabilities will also help. If you have a credit card you’re not using call and have it cancelled. This will show creditors that you don’t have unnecessary access to debt.
