Do I have to put up with calls from creditors if I enter into a Debt Settlement?
asked February 1, 2016 by Anonymous
I have been able to make the minimum payment thus far but eventually that will not be the case. I am wondering that if I apply for a Debt Settlement am I going to get harassing calls from my creditors?
If you enrolled in a debt settlement program, all correspondence should go through your settlement company. This includes negotiating a lower debt and other stipulations on your behalf. If you are in a settlement and a debt collector calls you, you can direct them to your debt settlement representative. However, make sure the collector contacting you is reaching out about debt that is in your settlement plan. Otherwise, you may have to speak to him or her.
If even if you are not a part of a settlement program, you can still request that the collector cease contacting you by writing them a letter.
For those who are unaware of their right regarding debt collectors, we put this guide together.
